Travel with us and explore Tikal, the most important, studied, and fascinating archaeological site in Guatemala and all of Central America. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this ancient ceremonial center impresses not only with its history but also with the experience it offers as you walk among ancient temples and a jungle that still holds secrets.
Your adventure begins with Tikal Expedition, which will pick you up directly from your hotel in Flores or from Mundo Maya Airport. After a journey of approximately one hour, we arrive at the gates of the most legendary Mayan city. There, the true journey begins.
Tikal flourished between 200 and 850 AD, reaching a grandeur that still amazes today. Its imposing structures—such as the Temple of the Great Jaguar, the Lost World complex, and the monumental Temple IV, which rises 70 meters above the jungle—bear witness to a time when science, spirituality, and art converged under the Mayan sky.
The city encompasses more than 576 square kilometers of rainforest, although only a small portion has been fully explored. It took more than 13 years of excavations by the University of Pennsylvania to reveal a mere 16 square kilometers of Tikal's ancient splendor. The rest remains shrouded in the jungle… waiting to be discovered.
That's why we offer you some sincere advice: Don't try to see everything in a single day. Tikal isn't just a place to see; it's a place to feel, to breathe, to live.
Tikal has something special, something magical. It's an enigma shrouded in vines, ancient sounds, and inexplicable energy. Standing there, among its temples and centuries-old trees, you'll notice something shift: time seems to stand still, your soul connects, and without realizing it… you'll want to stay a little longer.
