WHAT TO EXPECT
Experience an intensive day of birdwatching in one of Mesoamerica's most extraordinary locations. This Full Day Birdwatching Tour in Tikal National Park is designed to maximize your observation opportunities, taking advantage of the times of greatest bird activity: dawn and dusk.
The experience begins at 4:00 a.m. with pick-up from your hotel in Flores or El Remate, allowing us to arrive at the park before dawn. With the first light of day, as the jungle awakens and the morning chorus of birds reaches its peak, we begin our tour along strategic trails accompanied by a guide specializing in ornithology.
During the morning, we explored different habitats within the park—high jungle, natural clearings, and areas near Mayan structures—where it's possible to observe a remarkable diversity of resident and migratory species. Among the most sought-after species are the ocellated turkey, keel-billed toucan, trogons, motmots, oropendolas, manakins, forest raptors, and a wide variety of songbirds.
At the end of the morning session, we enjoyed some rest and lunch time at a restaurant in or near the park, ideal for relaxing, reviewing species lists, exchanging observations and preparing for the next stage of the day.
Starting at 3:00 p.m., we resume birdwatching, taking advantage of the afternoon activity when many species become active again before nightfall. This second outing, which lasts until approximately 6:00 p.m., offers excellent opportunities to observe different behaviors, flights back to roosts, and the changing sounds of the rainforest as night falls.
At the end of the tour, we begin the return to your hotel in Flores or El Remate, closing a complete and deeply enriching experience in one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in Guatemala.
