DESCRIPTION
Travel with us and explore Tikal, the most important, studied, and fascinating archaeological site in Guatemala and all of Central America. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this ancient ceremonial center impresses not only with its history but also with the experience it offers as you walk among ancient temples and a jungle that still holds secrets.
Your adventure begins with Tikal Expedition, which picks you up directly from your hotel in Flores or at Mundo Maya Airport. After a drive of approximately one hour, we arrive at the gates of the most legendary Mayan city. That's where the real journey begins.
Tikal flourished between 200 and 850 AD, reaching a grandeur that still astonishes today. Its imposing structures—such as the Temple of the Great Jaguar, the Lost World complex, and the monumental Temple IV, which rises 70 meters above the jungle—bear witness to a time when science, spirituality, and art united under the Mayan sky.
The city encompasses more than 576 km² of tropical rainforest, although only a small portion has been fully explored. It took more than 13 years of excavations by the University of Pennsylvania to reveal just 16 km² of Tikal's former splendor. The rest remains shrouded in the jungle… waiting to be discovered.
That's why we give you some honest advice: Don't try to cover everything in one day. Tikal isn't just a place to see; it's a place to feel, to breathe, to live.
And Tikal has something special, something magical. It's an enigma wrapped in vines, ancient sounds, and inexplicable energy. When you're there, among its temples and ancient trees, you'll notice something change: time stops, your soul connects, and without realizing it... you'll want to stay a little longer.
