DESCRIPTION
MAYAN EXPEDITION AMONG HIDDEN RUINS, VIRGIN RAINFOREST, AND AN EPIC VISIT TO TIKAL
Embark on a unique journey through the Petén jungle with our 4-day, 3-night trek from El Zotz to Tikal, an experience designed for lovers of history, adventure, and unspoiled nature. This route connects two key archaeological sites of the Mayan world: El Zotz, mysterious and little-explored, and Tikal, the iconic city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The tour begins on the outskirts of Flores, where a 4x4 vehicle will take us to the starting point. From there, we'll head into the jungle to begin the trek to El Zotz, an archaeological site surrounded by wild nature and famous for its bat population and the mythical structure known as "El Diablo," one of the best-preserved temples from the Classical period. We'll camp near the site, experiencing magical nights under a starry sky and surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.
Over the next few days, we'll follow ancient Mayan trails among gigantic trees, crossing areas rich in flora and fauna, spotting howler monkeys, toucans, coatis, and, with luck, even jaguars. We'll delve into a pristine ecosystem, guided by local experts who share valuable knowledge about archaeology, ecology, and the Mayan worldview.
On the third day, after completing the trek, we arrive at Tikal through its back entrance, just as the ancient Mayan hikers did. There, a hotel awaits us inside the national park, where we'll rest comfortably after our jungle adventure.
The fourth day is reserved for a leisurely and in-depth exploration of Tikal. We will visit its monumental temples, ceremonial plazas, and most important astronomical structures: the Temple of the Great Jaguar, Temple IV, the Lost World, among many other archaeological treasures. After this unforgettable experience, a private vehicle will take you back to your hotel on Flores Island or to Mundo Maya Airport, if you have a scheduled flight to Guatemala City.
