History, nature and local charm
Enjoy a brief but enriching experience with our Private Tour of Lake Petén Itzá, Tayasal, and Flores Island, perfect for those arriving in Flores with little time but keen to discover the cultural and natural essence of Petén.
We begin the tour with pickup from your hotel on Flores Island or at Mundo Maya International Airport. We head to the municipal pier, where we'll board a traditional Mayan boat for a short ride across Lake Petén Itzá, enjoying the breeze, tropical scenery, and spectacular views of the island and its natural surroundings. We then visit a wildlife refuge, a peaceful and scenic way to begin the day.
The boat will take us to the pier in the town of San Miguel, and then we'll walk to the archaeological site of Tayasal, an ancient Mayan city and the last bastion of resistance against the Spanish conquest. We'll walk along paths between trees and ruins undergoing research and restoration until we reach the Mirador Rey Canek, from where you can enjoy one of the best views of the lake and Flores Island.
Afterward, we'll return by boat to Flores Island, where we'll take a walking tour through its charming cobblestone streets. You'll explore its history, colonial architecture, and craft shops, discovering the island's most photogenic and authentic corners.
This tour is ideal as a half-day activity, perfect to do before check-in, before or after your flight.
